Life Cycle Assessment for Tetra Pak

Comparative Life Cycle Assessment between two containers for fresh milk, Tetra Rex - PET, and long-life milk UHT, Tetra Brik Aseptic - HDPE

For several years now leading companies operating in the packaging sector, with a willingness of comply with European directives recycling and recovery targets   ,  decided to adopt the methodology of Life Cycle Assessment as a tool to support  choices about their product redesign  and recycling methods.

This kind of analysis appears to be fundamentally important because not always market-success solutions are the best by an economic and environmental point of view.

Life Cycle Assessment, commissioned by Tetra Pak was carried in 2002 by  Environmental Quality Study Center of the University of Padova, in order to compare various types of milk packaging.

Particularly, regarding the fresh milk, a direct comparison was performed between polycoupled cardboard container Tetra Rex ® (manufactured by Tetra Pak) and PET bottle while, in the case of UHT milk, the comparative study concerned polycoupled cardboard box Tetra Brik Aseptic ® (manufactured by Tetra Pak) and triple layer HDPE bottles, .

This studyis "from cradle to grave."
